Anaphylaxis is terrifying. Do you know what to do?

If asthma is scary… Anaphylaxis is terrifying. Especially if you are a parent of a kid with severe allergies.

Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that involves more than one organ system (for example, skin, respiratory tract, and/or gastrointestinal tract). It can begin very rapidly, and symptoms may be severe or life-threatening.

This is the kind of reaction some people carry epi-pens to treat.

Recognizing the symptoms, and reacting quickly can literally mean the difference between life and death. Please read this information from the NIH. You never know when you might need it. https://www.niaid.nih.gov/topics/anaphylaxis/Pages/default.aspx

May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month!

May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month!

Unfortunately these diseases are very common. In fact Asthma affects 24 million Americans, and more than 50 million Americans have all types of allergies – pollen, skin, latex and more.

While there is no cure for asthma and allergies, many related deaths are preventable with proper treatment and care. So today’s topic is being proactive about your allergies.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Teva Respiratory teamed up to do a fun website which includes a lot of useful information on how to get ahead of your allergies. And to help you along they are also giving away a Dyson vacuum. Check if out at http://www.allergiesarentfunny.com/
