Most people think of asthma as the bigger, meaner cousin of allergies, but there is more to the story.
Asthma is one of this country’s most common and costly diseases. Each year it causes almost 2 million emergency room visits. The direct costs, including hospital stays, are nearly $50.1 billion each year. The indirect costs, like lost pay from illness or death, add another $5.9 billion to the bill annually.
